WE SEE HOW GREAT THESE GREAT LAKERS ARE – NOW YOU DO TOO
We knew that when we invited our Advisory Board members to join our project, they were some pretty amazing people. Little did we know we’d be dedicating a whole section of our website to keep up with them!
2023 Rural Recovery Hero Award
The Northern Michigan Opioid Response Consortium and the Michigan Center for Rural Health is proud to present the 2023 Rural Recovery Hero Award to Tory Werth.
Tory has worked in the Recovery field for many years, working tirelessly to support, educate, and promote Recovery. But he has also worked to build a Recovery Friendly Community outside of work. Tory serves as the President of the Board of Community Recovery Alliance (CRA) and was part of a group of dedicated individuals who founded CRA. He took over the Presidents role in January of 2023. In addition, he is a Board Member for Recovery NOTES and Great Lakes ROTA-RC. He’s been part of Recovery Dharma since its initial rollout in Chicago in 2019. Tory loves watching his youngest son play soccer and his oldest son play music. His work with these organizations creates fun opportunities for the recovery community, help reduce the stigma of recovery, and promote the overall Recovery Community in Northern Michigan.
Tory was presented with this award at the Rural Michigan Opioid Substance Use Summit. Great Lakes ROTA-RC and its partner, Michigan State University Extension couldn’t more excited to see Tory honored!

Meagan Barnett, Wisconsin Advisory Board member, and her team from Marshfield Clinic Health system presented to the DHS WI Opioid, Stimulant, and Trauma Summit on May 15-18, 2023. Their session highlighted how one Wisconsin-based program is addressing rural substance use through an integrated approach that leverages the voices of lived-experiences partners. The AmeriCorps Recovery program supports communities in addressing substance use across the continuum of care with recovery coaches integrated throughout.
