A Fresh Look at the Strategic Prevention Framework: Community-Centered Prevention in Action Session 1: Rethinking Assessment
from Northeast and Caribbean OTTC
Instead of viewing the Strategic Prevention Framework (SPF) as a step-by-step prevention planning model, reimagine it as an ecosystem—one that’s adaptive and constantly evolving with the needs and culture of the community. Through this frame, the SPF is not simply a process to follow, but one that both creates and responds to a dynamic web of relationships, environments, histories, and possibilities. Each step of the SPF—Assessment, Capacity Building, Planning, Implementation, Evaluation—functions interdependently nourishing one another, responding to changing community conditions, and requiring ongoing attention. When we treat prevention as part of the broader ecosystem of community wellness, we shift our focus from managing problems to cultivating resilience, connection, and belonging.
This six-part webinar series invites prevention practitioners and partners to explore the SPF through this lens, focusing in on key skills in each step and grounding our discussion in real-life contexts. Be inspired by the potential of what we can grow together!

We will discuss how to get volunteers and others to take action on behalf of the coalition. Together, we’ll uncover how to tell your coalition’s story in a way that gets people excited—and keeps them coming back. You’ll learn how to identify your biggest champions in the community and how to bring them on board as true partners. And let’s not forget the long game: we’ll walk through smart steps to keep things moving forward after the grant cycle ends—because the impact doesn’t stop when the funding does.
