The Role of Evidence-Based Prevention Strategies in Helping Address Addiction

In this session, we will review evidence-based strategies for substance use prevention addressing alcohol, cannabis, vaping, and prescription drugs that local coalitions and prevention providers can implement in their communities. We will examine interest groups to collaborate and “work with” as we work on the prevention of substance use and discuss the importance of language in reducing stigma and bias related to substance use and the people impacted by the use of substances.

Youth Engagement Workshop 1: Assessing Organizational Capacity & Readiness to Successfully Engage with Youth in your Substance Use Prevention Work

Is your organization ready to engage young people in your prevention work? Could the framework of social justice youth development add to your planned or existing work with and for youth? This 2-part series builds on highly attended and well-received previous webinars hosted by the SE PTTC and responds to requests for additional practice-oriented and interactive content.

The first workshop in this series will introduce participants to characteristics of organizations that serve as a strong foundation for youth engagement. Participants will then examine their own organizational capacity and readiness for youth engagement. After this, participants will be invited to discuss with others’ ideas for advancing characteristics to include and strengthen youth voice within their own settings. The workshop will close with an introduction to social justice youth development theory as a model for how to deepen practice with and for young people.

Opioids, Stimulants, and Trauma Summit

The Opioids, Stimulants, and Trauma Summit is an annual event that highlights prevention, harm reduction, treatment, and recovery strategies related to opioids, stimulants, and trauma. All people with an interest in building healthy communities are invited to attend.

Registration is required for this event. The UW-Milwaukee School of Continuing Education is supporting the registration process for this event. Single day passes for May 7, 8, and 9 are not available. You must pay the three-day registration to attend the conference. All registrants will have access to recordings of sessions on May 7, 8, and 9 they were unable to attend.

Naloxone Action Planning Meeting

Naloxone distribution is an essential intervention to prevent fatal opioid-involved overdoses. This event will explain the why and how to reach the goal of naloxone saturation in Wisconsin. Naloxone saturation is achieved when there is sustainable and equitable access to naloxone for distribution to people who use drugs and people who may witness an opioid overdose. 

All people interested in learning how to improve naloxone distribution in their communities are invited to participate in this free online meeting.

We’ve partnered with UW-Whitewater’s Center for Inclusive Transition, Education, and Employment to host this event.

Youth Engagement Workshop 2: A Social Justice Approach to Working With and For Young People In Substance Use Prevention

This 2-part series builds on highly attended and well-received previous webinars hosted by the Southeast PTTC and responds to requests for additional practice-oriented and interactive content.

In the second workshop, we invite participants to learn more about the social justice youth development framework and we will focus on how to identify and address unequal distributions of power in youth-adult relationships. The workshop will close with reflection and discussion, tailored to participants’ own level of youth engagement identified through a pre-survey, about how to engage in practices that enhance authentic collaboration between youth and adults and to apply concepts to their own contexts to deepen commitment to youth voice.

Weaving Wisdom with Innovation: Timeless indigenous strategies for contemporary substance use disorder prevention

Discover how integrating Indigenous wisdom with contemporary strategies bolsters substance use disorder prevention. This session highlights how blending traditional and modern practices creates effective community-based prevention models. Experts will unpack the process of merging ancestral knowledge with innovative approaches, aiming to tackle substance use challenges more effectively, enhance community bonds, and promote health.

Please save the date to join GLITEC’s 3rd Annual Great Lakes Area Opioid Conference: Journeying Toward Wellness in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan.

This conference is focused on increasing knowledge around opioids and other substance use, mental health, and other related topics. It will also support collaborative response efforts promoting regional health and wellness. GLITEC is offering several pre-conference trainings to support the amazing work occurring across the Great Lakes region.

This conference is geared toward Tribal public health professionals, prevention professionals, social workers, community health workers, and others working within Indian Country to support health and wellness.
